As an avid book thrifter and collector, I’m accustomed to wandering unorganized shelfs and skimming spines. Let’s be honest; we all judge a book by its cover, and I’m a firm believer that the book cover needs to really encompass the world inside.
Morgan Matson is one of my favorite authors but the look of her 5 novels (seen in next photo) on my shelf bothers me. All covers are individually nice but they don't look like a set. They are all stand-alones, but they all take place in the same town and are the authors complete set, so it would make sense to release a matching set of all the books.
To encompass the style of all the books, which each included a teen romance, I used a valentine's inspired aesthetic. I used candy hearts on the back cover to break up the space and on the spines to make the set feel cohesive. The sunset inspired color palette, to combines both the valentine's look and the spirit of the books as they all take place over the summertime. Each cover has a mess of papers and other souvenirs from the stories. I hand lettered each title on the front cover to highlight the whimsy of the novels. I used the font 'learning curve' for the titles on the spines because it gave me the sweet and innocent childhood valentine's day look. To balance that font, I used 'Oswald', a clean, tall, and easy to read sans serif.
